Smart Photography – the street in your pocket

In this workshop we will briefly examine some small and simple elements that will help us optimise smartphone photography in street photography.

Having it with you at all times is not the one and only advantage of this medium, which is now of fundamental importance for many internationally renowned street photographers and photojournalists. By going beyond point and shoot, through the study of software and hardware analysis, we will discover that the smartphone can give us emotions and satisfaction we never imagined.

We will conclude the workshop with a shooting in the streets of Anagni and an analysis of some RAW files in Lightroom.

Salvatore Matarazzo

In this workshop Salvatore will guide you through his personal vision of Street Photography that has made him known in the world panorama of photography, thanks to his unique and hard-to-label style. He will accompany you along the streets of your city explaining how, with thought and observation, you can find extraordinary things even in the most common everyday life.

And, without neglecting the human side, he will show you how he manages to approach strangers and photograph them, a process where so many factors come into play such as body language, empathy and the ability to adapt to any situation you may encounter on the street.

This part of the course is essential for the more “shy” photographers who decide to break the ice on the street and for those who are not afraid but nevertheless cannot approach people because they feel uncomfortable or too indiscreet.

The workshop programme also includes more technical parts, such as the use of flash in Street Photography and the various methods used by the members of the international Full Frontal Flash collective to make this artificial light a true creative tool, both during the day and at night and in any environment, open or closed.

Salvatore will also talk to you about portrait photography and Street Photography: the basics of Street Photography, street portraiture, composition and editing, how to develop a project and how to achieve your own precise and recognisable style.
